Women Paramilitary Forces Deployed in Srinagar in the Spate of Violence

Following a spate of targeted killings that left 11 civilians dead earlier this month, security has been stepped up and searches have been intensified throughout the Kashmir Valley, particularly in the capital Srinagar. In areas of Srinagar’s old city and south Kashmir regions, where recent attacks have been recorded, the authorities have banned or limited the speed of mobile internet access.

In addition, the number of bulletproof mobile bunker vehicles stationed at important locations has been raised, and high-tech CCTV surveillance has been reinforced.

In the aftermath of civilian killings in Kashmir, women paramilitary personnel has been deployed in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk for searches, which is a first in the last 30 years. The CRPF ladies searched women’s baggage as they passed through Lal Chowk in the city centre.
