Woman dragged, gang-raped in a car and dumped in National Highway; Kanchipuram, Tamilnadu

Yet another chilling reminder of rape culture in India came to light when a 20-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by five individuals in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu.

The Kanchipuram police in this connection have arrested four men on Thursday accused of allegedly sedating and gang-raping a 20-year-old woman in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. The arrestees have been identified as Gunaseelan, Jebanesan, Gunasekaran, and Ajit. The fifth accused named Kamaraj was also reported to be arrested on Saturday.

As per reports, the woman who worked in a mobile shop befriended one of the accused online who was identified as Gunaseelan. It was reported that he had proposed the offer of getting her a job change with better salary, supposedly in a private company.

 On Wednesday, Gunaseelan picked her up from her workplace in his car and took her to his farmhouse in Melkathipur village near Kanchipuram.  Police said she was offered a sedative-laced soft drink. After which she lost consciousness following which Gunaseelan and three of his friends, who were then called to the location, allegedly raped her inside the vehicle. The four allegedly took turns to rape the woman inside the car.

When she regained consciousness, the 20-year-old woman attempted to raise the alarm. Reports suggest she tried to break the window of the vehicle and scream. After hearing the pandemonium locals nearby rushed to the spot and found her naked and two men sexually assaulting her. They tried to rescue her but Gunaseelan and his friends managed to escape from the spot on the car and bikes.

Later, they dragged the girl out of the car and left her on the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway near Baluchetty Chatiram and escaped. The woman then went to the Baluchetty Chatiram police station and narrated the ordeal to the police and filed a complaint. The police rushed her to Kanchipuram government hospital where she was admitted.

Based on the victim’s complaint, the district SP held an inquiry and formed a special team to nab the accused. However, all of the accused have been arrested .

The incident came to light just after a 32-year woman in Mumbai’s Saki Naka area was allegedly raped and assaulted with a rod.

 CCTV footage reportedly showed a man stabbing a rod inside her genitals. Though the accused have been arrested, the woman passed away during treatment on Saturday and meanwhile the Maharashtra Chief Minister has also asked for a trial in the case to be fast-tracked.
