Urvashi Rautela chops off her hair in support of Iranian women

In solidarity with women in Iran, Urvashi Rautela has filmed herself cutting off chunks of her hair. In addition to sharing photos of herself getting her hair cut, the actor wrote a long note about protests in Iran, feminism and the death of Ankita Bhandari in Uttarakhand.

The death of Mahsa Amini was the subject of a post Urvashi uploaded on Instagram on Monday. She has been sharing glimpses of her recent vacation to Australia. The actor was sitting on a tiled floor while a man used scissors to clip off a few pieces of her hair. She was dressed in a blue kurta. Urvashi was receiving a hair cut in both of the pictures she posted, but her back was to the camera.

Mahsa Amini, 22, died in police custody last month, sparking large-scale anti-government demonstrations in Iran and elsewhere in the world. Celebrities like Priyanka Chopra have also expressed support for Iranian women by posting messages on social media. Mahsa was detained by the morality police after she refused to cover her head, and according to sources, she passed away while still in detention. Women in Iran have been taking off their headscarves and cutting their hair ever since.
