On Wednesday, a 24-year-old Tezpur University student was arrested for allegedly rapping a female classmate on campus, in a heinous event that occurred in one of Assam’s most famous universities, Tezpur University.
The institution has stated that it has received a “sexual harassment” complaint and has launched an investigation into the situation. According to authorities, the teen stated that he was “innocent and was being framed.”
On Tuesday, Tezpur police station filed a case under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code. On Thursday, the accused appeared in court in Sonitpur district, where he was sentenced to 14 days in judicial imprisonment. “The court found a prima facie case against him and incarcerated him,” Sonitpur SP Dhananjay P Ghanawat told TOI. The alleged “sexual assault and harassment” episodes occurred on October 13, 15, and 16, according to the FIR.
