Tulika Maan and Linthoi Chanambam will take part in the inaugural Khelo India Women’s Judo National League

The inaugural Khelo India Women’s Judo National League will take place from October 20 to 23 at the Indra Gandhi Stadium in the nation’s capital.

The Judo Federation of India and the Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, are organising the league, a National Ranking competition for female judokas from 4 Zones.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, which supports the competition, has approved a sum of Rs. 1.74 crore for its organisation and to promote the growth of Judo at the grassroots level. The tournament’s 31 weight divisions had a combined prize pool of Rs 24.43 lakh.

The competition is divided into four age divisions: Sub Junior (12–15), Cadet (15–17), Junior (15–20), and Senior (15 years and above). The top 7 judokas in each of the 31 weight divisions will receive a monetary reward.

Tulika Maan, who won the silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, and Linthoi Chanambam, who won the gold medal at the World Cadet Judo Championship, will compete in the competition. There will be 496 Judokas competing in all. Based on their standing and performance in their respective zones, i.e., North, South, East, and West, the contenders for the national league are chosen.

The national league will also feature the top 7 Judokas chosen through national selection trials and national judo competitions.

Following a loss against Scotland’s Sarah Adlington in the women’s +78 kg final at the Commonwealth Games 2022, Indian judoka Tulika Maan took home the silver medal.

At the Cadet World Championships held in Sarajevo, Indian judoka Linthoi Chanambam made history by winning the nation’s first-ever gold medal in any age group by defeating Brazil’s Bianca Reis in the women’s 57 kg division.

In the gold medal match, she prevailed over her Brazilian rival 1-0. In addition, Linthoi is the current Asian Champion in her discipline.
