Due to the formation of a low-pressure system along the coast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Chennai and neighboring districts, which are predicted to get exceptionally heavy rains on Thursday.
Heavy rainfall is also forecast in Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Salem, Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli, Karur, and other Tamil Nadu districts, according to Dr. Balanchandran.
Fishermen are also warned not to go out into the water from Thursday onwards, according to the weather bureau.
In total, 14 individuals have died in the state as a result of rain-related incidents. The state administration has continued to conduct rescue and relief activities in all of Tamil Nadu’s impacted areas.
