Mother and three-year-old child killed as a building collapsed in Kolkatta

A three-year-old toddler and a mother were killed in a horrific incident on Kolkata’s Ahiritola Street after a building collapsed on Wednesday. They were recovered from beneath the building’s debris, according to accounts, but died later from their injuries.
According to a Kolkata Police officer, a large disaster management team, fire department, and police officers from the local police station are on the scene. “He added that approximately 6.40 a.m., a piece of the building at 9 Ahiritola lane, where two families were staying, collapsed. “Through a large gap, one of the two families was able to escape the ruins.
Meanwhile, locals flocked to the scene and alerted the Jorabagan Police Station, which rushed employees from the fire department and the disaster management department to the scene, according to the officer.
“The entire building is in a really bad state, and we must undertake the rescue operations with extreme caution, or else another calamity could occur,” he warned.
“An intense spell of rain or thundershower accompanied by gusty wind 30-40 kph is likely to continue over Kolkata, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapur, Jhargram, Howrah, Hooghly, east and west Midnapur, East and West Bardhaman, Birbhum districts of West Bengal during the next 3-4 hours from 0700 hours IST of today the 29th September’ 2021,” according to the IMD.
As cyclonic storm ‘Gulab’ is expected to hit the West Bengal coast on Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department has forecast an intense spell of rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds across Kolkata and surrounding areas over the next 3-4 hours.
