
Kiren Rijiju promoted to cabinet rank as the new Minister of Law and Justice. He took charge of his office in Delhi Thrusday morning. He succeeded Ravi Shankar Prasad as Law and Justice Minister.
Kiren Rijiju was born in 19th November 1971 to a leading family at Nakhu near Nafra in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. His father was the first pro-term speaker of Arunachal Pradesh.He graduated from the Hansraj College, University of Delhi and also gratuated degree in law from Law Campus Centre, University of Delhi.
Soon after the swearing in ceremony he thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi on twitter for believing in him and giving him new responsibility. He was among the six Union Minister who have been promoted to the cabinet. He was first elected to Lok Sabha after 2004 general election. He lost his election in 2009 and was re- elected in 2014-2019.
Kiren Rijiju has remained the face of Bharatiya Janata Party in North East India. He had served as the Member of Khadi and Village Industries Commission from 2004-2005. He was further appointed as the Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs in the year 2019.
During his tenure as a Sports & Youth Affairs Minister he always encouraged young talents to come forward in the field of sports and fitness. He ushered the country into a new fitness era through Fit India Movement He took various initiatives to promote fitness among the Indians.
He reviewed and hiked the prize money award in four categories of the National Sports and Adventure Awards, the prize money of the Rajeev Gandhi Khel Ratna Award increased from 7.5 lakh to 25 lakh, followed by Arjuna Award from 5 lakh to 15 lakh and Dhronacharya (lifetime) awardees from 5 lakh to 15 lakh and Dhronacharya (regular) awardees were bestowed with a prize money of 10 lakh which was earlier 5 lakh.
He provided financial assistance to current and former athletes who were facing financial constraints. Anju Bobby George and Gagan Narang had strived hard to receive funds from the government for their respective academics. While both this legend players received assurances from the ministry with a grant upto 5 crores each under the National Sports Development Fund.
Kiren Rijiju interacted with almost all the senior and junior athletes during his tenure which helped him to know the greviences faced by these athletes and to solve them. He had a vision to grow sports and fitness from the grassroot level and make India ‘a fit India’.
