India Scripted History Completing 100 crore Vaccinations Doses

This morning, India passed the one billion COVID-19 immunizations mark. The government plans to vaccinate all 944 million people in India this year. India completed 1 billion (100 crore) doses of the Covid-19 vaccine today, nine months after launching “the world’s largest vaccination effort.” PM Narendra Modi praised the achievement, saying that the country had “written history.”

“We are seeing the victory of Indian science, enterprise, and 130 crore Indians’ collective spirit.” Congratulations on reaching the milestone of 100 million vaccines in India. “Thank you to our physicians, nurses, and everyone else who helped us achieve this,” he tweeted.

According to data from the CoWIN portal as of 10.50 p.m. on Wednesday, the total number of vaccination doses delivered in the country surpassed 99.7 crore, with about 75% of all adults receiving the first dose and around 31% receiving both doses. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister, urged everyone who is eligible to get immunised as soon as possible and participate to the “historic” voyage. For the occasion, he will premiere a song by vocalist Kailash Kher as well as an audio-visual film at the Red Fort. The largest national flag, weighing over 1,400 kg, is expected to be raised at the Red Fort on this day, according to news agency PTI.
