First Khasi Woman to become Chief Secretary of Meghalaya; Pride for the State

Rebecca Venassa Suchiang, a 1989 IAS officer and the first Khasi lady has been appointed as the Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, succeeding M.S.Rao, a 1987 batch IAS officer, who would retire on September 30. It is a source of great pride for the state of Meghalaya, where women are always prioritized.

In the late 1980s, PP Trivedi was Meghalaya’s first female chief secretary.

Throughout her career, Suchiang has held positions in cabinet affairs, home (police), political, finance, personnel, and AR, among others.

“RV Suchiang…is posted a chief secretary to the Government of Meghalaya with effect from the date of superannuation of MS Rao, chief secretary of the Government of Meghalaya, i.e. on 30th September 2021 on an assumption of charge as chief secretary,” according to a notification issued by the Commissioner Secretary in-charge Personnel & AR (A) R Lyngdoh on Wednesday.
