ED Arrests Real Estate Tycoon Lalit Goyal on Money Laundering case

The Enforcement Directorate has arrested Lalit Goyal, the chairman of the real estate firm IREO, in a money laundering case.
Last week, the realtor was held at Delhi Airport as he was ready to board a flight out of the country. The Enforcement Directorate, which probes financial crimes, had issued a watch list for Mr. Goyal.
On Thursday, Mr. Goyal was stopped and questioned at the airport. Officials stated his detention was required since he was “ambiguous.”
Since 2010, IREO has been under investigation for violating the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
The businessman has been taken into custody by the federal inquiry agency in Chandigarh under the terms of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and will be brought before a local court for remand, officials added.
