According to Taliban officials, an explosion occurred at a mosque in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar region.
During Friday prayers, an explosion rocked a mosque in the Spin Ghar district of Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan, hurting at least 12 people, including a local mullah, according to residents.
According to Atal Shinwari, a local neighbor, the explosion happened about 1:30 p.m. when explosives in the mosque’s interior detonated. Another local shared a similar story.
During the previous few months, similar incidents have also been reported in Afghanistan. Blasts tore through a Shia mosque during Friday prayers in the Afghan city of Kandahar in early October, killing over 40 people and injuring dozens more.
A suicide strike on a Shia mosque in the northern city of Kunduz during Friday prayers had killed at least 50 people.
IS-K, on the other hand, claimed responsibility for the attack, which was the bloodiest since US troops left in late August.
