Assam government sets target to fully vaccinate eligible population by January 15 .

The Assam state government has set a target to fully vaccinate the eligible population by January 15 next year. The government will start a drive for 10 lakhs people, including those hesitant towards COVID-19 vaccination.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Assam government is targeting to inoculate estimated to be around 2.1 crore, with both doses by January 15 next year.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, the Assam chief minister said that in the eligible population, around 10 lakh people were hesitant about taking a Covid-19 vaccine. “They are either not willing to take the jabs or some people are very senior people [and they are] not able to come to the vaccination centres,” said Himanta Biswa Sarma.

He added, “Our first dose coverage is almost 95 percent. We are starting a special drive from November 15 to include those people who are resistant to vaccines. These will include KarbiAnglong and Dima Hasao district. We have started reaching out to elderly people and doing vaccination at home. During the drive ministers and officials will camp in villages for seven days.”

He added that 77 lakh people have received double doses. We have around 2.1 crore eligible population for the vaccines and around 2,00,76,000 have received the first dose. Our second dose coverage is around 40 percent. ”
