Apple is developing a new dock that will transform the iPad into a smart display

According to The Verge, Apple is working on an iPad dock that will allow the tablet to operate as a smart display and speaker.

According to the site, the information was revealed by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who indicated that the business hopes to introduce the functionality as early as next year, transforming the iPad into an Amazon Echo Show-like device that can be positioned atop a counter or nightstand.

Amazon already offers something similar with their Fire tablets, allowing customers to prop them up like a smart display by placing them in a charging dock.

Last week, Google introduced a docking device for its future Pixel Tablet that will function as both a magnetic charging station and a speaker.

Once installed, the tablet will function similarly to a Nest Hub Max, allowing you to control your smart home via the Home app and interact with Google Assistant, according to The Verge.

Gurman speculated that an iPad docking station may function similarly, allowing users to make FaceTime calls and handle smart home gadgets hands-free.

The business is also working on other smart home gadgets, such as an updated HomePod with an updated display, a S8 chip, and multitouch capabilities, according to Gurman.

Gurman claimed last year that Apple is also working on a combined Apple TV and smart speaker gadget with a camera, which he believes is still in the works.

Meanwhile, Apple is expected to release the iPad Pro by the end of this month, with 11-inch and 12.9-inch variants, as well as Apple’s in-house M2 chip, according to The Verge.
