A Young Police Officer killed in J&K by terrorists; Thousands thronged to pay last tribute

A young Police officer Arshad Ahmad Mir, from Jammu & Kashmir on Sunday was shot dead by terrorists when he had taken an accused who was detained for a medical check-up to a medical facility at Khanyar in downtown Srinagar.

The officer was rushed to Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) but succumbed to his injuries. The incident took place at around 1.35 pm, the officials said.

The shooting was caught on a CCTV camera. In the video, it was seen that the terrorist is coming from behind and firing point-blank. The officer received three bullets in the head and fell.

As the body of the 25-year-old police officer reached Kalmuna village in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, thousands of people thronged the village to pay their last respects to the Sub-Inspector Arshad Ahmad Mir.

Dilbag Singh, Director-General of Police J&K said “We have lost a brave young officer. He was deputed to a hospital for the check-up of an accused person. When he was coming out of the hospital, he was shot”.

“The perpetrator has been identified and he will be brought to justice,” Mr. Singh said.

Officials say Mr. Mir was recruited as a sub-inspector in Jammu and Kashmir police last year. After completing a year-long training, he was posted at the Khanyar police station for a few months.
