75-year-old top Maoist commander with 1 crore bounty on head arrested from Jharkhand

Jharkhand Police have detained top Maoist commander Prashant Bose alias Kishan Da. According to authorities, he was apprehended alongside his wife, Sheela Marandi, who is also a top Maoist leader. Prashant had a one-crore bounty on his head. The couple had been apprehended and was being taken to Ranchi for further questioning.

The officers were apprehended based on intelligence inputs, according to the officer.

Bose, a West Bengal native, was in control of Maoist activity in multiple states, including Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, and was thought to be operating out of the Saranda jungles, according to the officer.

Kishan Da is a prominent Maoist leader who served as the head of the Maoist Communist Centre of India (MCCI) before it united with the CPI-ML (People’s War) in 2004 to establish the CPI (Maoist). He was one of the ideologues in charge of the revolutionary forces’ reunion, which led to the foundation of the deadly Maoist organization CPI (Maoist).

Kishan Da’s wife Sheela Marandi, another prominent Maoist official and the sole woman member of the CPI (Maoistdecision-making )’s Central Committee (CC) was also arrested, according to sources.

Kishan Da is the secretary of the Maoist party’s Eastern Regional Bureau (ERB) and a member of the CPI Maoist Central Committee, Politburo, and Central Military Commission (CMC). He directs and coordinates the revolutionary activity in the North East states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh as the ERB secretary. Prashanth Bose is approximately 75 years old and has been diagnosed with cancer.
