32-year-old rape victim died in Mumbai; Brutally assaulted with Rod

One more Nirbhaya lost her life today in Mumbai, Maharastra after fighting for 36 hours to survive.

  In another horrific and shameful crime reported from Mumbai on Friday when a 32-year-old woman, who was raped and brutally assaulted in stationary tempo in Mumbai’s Saki Naka early on Friday, died during treatment, police said on Saturday.

The woman was raped and a rod was inserted in her private parts by a 45-year-old man in the Sakinaka area of Mumbai in Maharashtra. The victim fought for 36 hours for life. The incident occurred in suburban Sakinaka on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

Sakinaka Police Station Senior Police Inspector Balwant Deshmukh said that the accused, identified as a local, Mohan Chavan, 45, was arrested hours after the dastardly crime and is being interrogated.

The Sakinaka police found her lying unconscious in the tempo around 3:30 am. She was shifted to Rajawadi Hospital, where she succumbed after battling for her life for 36 hours. She had sustained serious injuries as a rod was inserted in her private parts by the accused, who was arrested a few hours after the heinous crime.

The arrestee, Mohan Chauhan, has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. Initial inquiries by the police revealed that Chauhan had raped the now-deceased woman and brutalised her private parts inside a tempo parked on the roadside in Sakinaka. Bloodstains were found inside the tempo.

He was identified and tracked with the help of CCTV footage.

The heinous crime reminds everyone of Nirbhaya, a young physiotherapy student who was sexually assaulted, beaten, and tortured inside a moving bus in the national capital on the night of December 16, 2012. She later succumbed to her injuries at a hospital in Singapore after battling for life for several days.
